Weekly Update

Hello Third Grade Families,

I can't believe it's almost November! The year is flying by! Please take a minute to save these dates on your calendar:

No School for students Tues, November 5th
Thanksgiving Feast for K and 5th Tues, November 19th
Thanksgiving Feast for 3rd and 4th Wed, November 20th
Thanksgiving Feast for 1st and 2nd Thurs, November 21st

As you know, this Thursday is Halloween! Students may not wear costumes to school. We will be completing a Fall-themed STEM challenge with Mrs. Westbrook. If you are able, please send in toothpicks and/or bags of candy corn for the activity by Wednesday. Students will bring home their regular math homework sheet on Monday, but they do not have to complete Thursday's row of homework unless they want to. There will be no spelling test on Friday either! Happy Pumpkin Day!!

Here's a look at our learning this week:

In reading, we are continuing to work on identifying the main idea and supporting details of a text. The students are getting so much better with this skill! A big challenge has been to say or write the main idea in a complete sentence. We will keep working on this in class!
In writing, we are working on an informational piece. We gathered lots of research last week and now we will work on putting all of those facts into sentences and paragraphs. Be sure to ask your child what animal he or she is writing about.

Our grammar focus this week will be on past tense verbs. We will specifically focus on irregular verbs. To practice more with verbs check out this game  -  Verbs

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me or Mrs. Westbrook know.
Have a GREAT week!
