Here's a look at our learning this week:

In reading, we will work on understanding how to identify the main idea and supporting details of a non-fiction text. We will be working on this skill for a couple weeks. A helpful hint to try when determining the main idea is to ask, "What was every sentence in the paragraph/passage/chapter about?" We will continue to work on answering questions about texts using complete sentences.

We will begin a new writing research project this week. We will be visiting our library/learning commons to learn more about how to gather research. Then we will take that research and use it for an informational writing piece.

We will also begin to learn about verbs this week. At home, you can ask your child to practice identifying verbs (and nouns for review) in books he or she is reading.

This Thursday, we will have an author visit with Diane Shore. You can read more about her here. Order forms went home last Thursday for those interested in pre-purchasing an autographed book.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about anything.

Have a great week!
