Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays!!

I hope everyone has a safe and relaxing holiday break! We look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday, January 7th.

There is a green reading challenge sheet stapled in your child's agenda. Please sign and return the sheet when we return in January. We are hoping for 100% class participation! Several students borrowed books from my personal book collection to read during the break. Please be sure these books make it back after the break =)

Thank you!

Friday, December 14th ~ Grinch Day - Wear green or a Grinch shirt

Thurs, Dec 20th, Class Holiday Party
Thurs, Dec 20th, Early Release
Fri, Dec 21st, Early Release
Dec 22- Jan 6, NO SCHOOL
Mon, Jan 7th, School Resumes

Here's a look at our learning this week:

In writing, we will begin a final draft of our informational piece in which students were comparing and contrasting to similar topics. The students will be typing their essays to work on keyboarding skills.

In reading, we will continue to work on the skill of comparing and contrasting two texts. The students will be choosing 2 countries and then reading about the similarities and differences between the holidays celebrated there.

We will visit the science lab on Monday for a fun Holiday STEM challenge. Be sure to check Class Dojo for pictures!

In social studies, we will be completing a technology project with Mrs. Nelson, our media specialist. The students will take the information learned last week about productive resources and use the program Powtoons to show their knowledge. Be sure to ask your child about this project later in the week.

We will also have a visit from Wellstar on Thursday to talk with us about healthy habits.

In math, we will continue some with word problems, but also move on to graphing. Students should be able to read and understand bar graphs and pictographs. Usually, the most difficult part of a pictograph is remember to look at the key. Students should also be able to answer questions like, "How many more... and How many less...?" based on the graphs presented. Check out these games for more practice.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you and have a great week!

Here's a look at our learning this week:

In writing, we will continue working on a compare and contrast informational piece we began last week. Once we finish writing our rough draft, we hope to type a final copy on the computer to help with typing skills.

Our grammar focus this week will be pronoun/antecedent agreement.

In reading, we will focus on comparing and contrasting two texts. We will look for these clue words as we're reading to help identify similarities and differences in our texts.

In social studies, we will learn about productive resources. Students will learn about natural, human, and capital resources as well as entrepreneurship.

In math, we will continue our work on multiplication and division word problems. Students should be reading the problems slowly and picturing what's happening. Then they should determine if they need to find the total (multiplication) or if they already know the total (division). Here is a link for more word problem practice https://www.khanacademy.org/math/cc-third-grade-math/cc-3rd-mult-div-topic/cc-3rd-two-step-word-problemsa/e/multiplication-and-division-word-problems--within-100-
