Sept. 24-28th,  NO SCHOOL - Fall Break

Here's a look at our learning this week:

On Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday morning, your child will participate in COGAT testing. Please be sure your child arrives on time, has a good breakfast, and gets enough sleep in preparation for these testing days. With the exception of our brief testing time each morning, our schedule will remain mostly the same. Specials and lunch will be at our regular times. There is no way to "study" for the COGAT test, but there are sample questions floating around the internet if you or your child are curious about the types of questions they will see. For more info about the test click here

Writing - We will be working on writing rough drafts of our personal narratives this week. We will learn that good writers use dialogue and descriptive language to make their stories more interesting. We will also learn about how to separate our writing into multiple paragraphs.

Reading - We will continue asking and answering questions about what we are reading, using Charlotte's Web to help.

Math - We will finish up our unit on 2-step addition & subtraction word problems, for now. We will revisit word problems throughout the year and eventually add multiplication & division. Speaking of multiplication, we will begin our unit on multiplication later this week! This is always an exciting time in 3rd grade! While learning multiplication facts is an important part of 3rd grade, we will start with understanding what it means to multiply. We will learn that multiplication is just repeated addition of equal groups. We will also learn about arrays.

Social Studies - We will finish up our economics unit by reviewing what we learned about the services our government provides for us and also understanding what opportunity cost is.

We will be visiting the Science Lab tomorrow in preparation for our new unit on Rocks & Soils which we are starting soon!

Homework: The weekly math homework will be sent home tomorrow and due Friday. Your child may complete one less column due to the shortened week. We will have spelling words this week with our test on Friday. Words will be written in your child's agenda tomorrow. Please continue to read to or with your child for at least 20 minutes every night. If you are having trouble finding appropriate books, please let me know and I can send home books from my class library. Please remember to have your child log his or her minutes using biblionasium.  After clicking on the link below, select the green section in the middle. Your child can log on with his or her Cobb County student #.  Please let me know if you have any questions about logging minutes. Biblionasium

Progress Reports: This Thursday, Progress Reports will be sent home. In 3rd grade, we only send them to students who are at risk of receiving a 1 in any area on their report card. If you have questions about your child's progress, please let me know.

As always, please let me or Mrs. Keith know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you!
