Here's a look at our learning this week:

In writing, we will be visiting our Learning Commons to work with Mrs. Nelson on how to research for informative writing. Once we have our facts gathered, we will use our research to write an informative piece.

In reading, we will learn a strategy for answering constructed response comprehension questions. The strategy is SLAMS! You can help your child with this by encouraging him or her to talk with you in complete sentences when discussing a book.

In science, we will learn more about weathering and erosion. Ask your child about each of these words toward the end of the week. We will be completing an erosion STEM challenge on Thursday!

In math, we will begin learning memorization strategies for our multiplication facts. By the end of third grade, students should be able to fluently multiply facts with products from 0-100. We will be starting with learning the 2s and 5s tables. I encourage you to check in with your child on how he or she is doing with memorizing these facts. Please check your child's backpack for a letter on a fun incentive we are doing throughout the year to encourage fact memorization. There are games on our blog to help practice. Also, flashcards can be beneficial. There are packs at the Dollar Store, or we can print some for your child at school if you let us know you're interested. When learning facts, start with just a few at a time, then gradually add in more. This is an exciting time in 3rd grade!

Have a GREAT week!
